Message of Dai Nippon Butoku Kai
Sosai, Higashi Fushimi of Dai Nippon Butoku Kai wrote the
masterful calligraphy, "Discovering the future through the wisdom of
the past" in 2000. In 2001 he also wrote the symbolic calligraphy,"
Ten thousand happiness, peace and prosperity in the land" addressing
the importance of cooperation and encompassing unity of the world.
Sosai is posing the essential question of humanity how best we can
tackle the fundamental issues of human problems. He sees enormous
challenge of human nature in the advent of new era. Though we may
have differences in culture and polity, he feels we can steadfastly
find the viable solutions. For, essentially, we wish to have the
same ends such as lasting happiness, peace and prosperity for all.
There are many reasons why we have not achieved such simple essence
in human history. There are no easy answers to these complex
questions. By looking at the confounding reality of the world,
despite the persistent turmoil we may have today, we should never
lose an abiding hope for the strength of true spirit of
humanity.
Bearing in mind of the lofty ideals of the prince, what we will
be attempting to do in the World Butoku Sai in the ancient Butokuden
is not only about the demonstration of martial skills and physical
prowess but also this is about the message we can share and address
to the world. It is a simple message that the pure human spirit
shall prevail. This is about our present and future how and what we
can create together for the goodness of the common cause; peace,
harmony, and prosperity. I am certain you will bring the best of
your martial skills, national pride and honor but above all you will
bring your pure spirit to be merged to become greater than any
single individual, style and school, region and nation. We together
can achieve this essence and hopefully this shall be the landmark
effort for all of us. In many sense, this experience should forge
our bond beyond the superficial differences of geography and
culture. We feel we are very fortunate to have more than universal
language of martial arts but also spirit of that essence. Those who
cannot partake in this historic event could also participate
indirectly in the significant historic movement we all are bound.
This event is for all members of DNBK International Division even if
you cannot be there in person at the site. You can fulfill your part
by focusing your energy and sending your prayer for success toward
the Butokuden on April 29, 2002. This is pivotal dream that we can
give our energy to this lofty cause. The rest is our inspiration
connecting to all who wish to be connected.
In this pivotal effort of DNBK International Division, I wish to
convey our heartfelt thanks to all division representatives and
leaders, practitioners and members of our association for preparing
and building the unprecedented team of the world. The ancient two
arrows symbolizing the power of Wisdom and Courage" in the crest of
DNBK shall live in eternity because of the tireless dedication to
the essence of the martial truth. I hope you are very proud to wear
the emblem of DNBK as we march on together in Kyoto Japan.
